Abhijeet Pande
- Associate Director - Building
Science Research and Standards
Abhijeet Pande brings
expertise in the fields of architecture, energy efficient design, and
energy research on structures. Mr. Pande completes technical analysis
for a variety of HMG projects including building code change proposals,
buildings research, program plans for multifamily buildings, and technical
data collection for evaluation projects.
Past projects involving building code
change proposals dealt with domestic hot water systems, time dependent
valuation, and bi-level lighting controls. He coordinated a
study assessing the statewide multifamily high-rise construction trends.
He was the lead analyst for a project that identified the window area and
domestic hot water standard budget loopholes, that were subsequently
addressed.
He evaluated the effects of Time Dependent
Valuation on the building codes. He was the lead analyst on a code change
proposal to provide bi-level lighting control credits.
He managed a project within the PIER Lighting Research Program
that tracked the codes and standards connections for various energy
efficient lighting products developed through the program. He is currently
involved in identifying future research needs and code change ideas for
the 2008 round of CA Title 24 energy code.
Research
projects include studying the effects of daylighting in office settings
and understanding the use of photocontrols in nonresidential buildings. He
was the technical lead for a PIER project studying the beneficial effects
of daylighting on employee productivity in office buildings, and student
test scores in schools. He has also consulted on energy efficiency issues
for school design assistance programs funded by the California Energy
Commission.
He coordinated a study for SCE assessing the
operational status and energy savings from daylight control systems in
top-lit non-residential buildings in southern
California. Results from the study were used to
establish design and installation guidelines for photocontrols in top-lit
applications.
Mr. Pande is an
analyst on various measurement and evaluation projects, and coordinated
the data collection efforts for evaluation of SMUD’s energy efficiency
rebate programs. He is currently coordinating the data collection efforts
and savings analysis for the Davis Energy Efficiency Program.
Mr. Pande has
been involved in various projects involving distance learning, and is
experienced in the fields of website design and management. He coordinated
the design and implementation of FEMP Lights and EDR Lights, both
web-based training courses on lighting efficiency. He is currently
responsible for the administration of the FEMP Lights distance-learning
course.
He
comes to the Heschong Mahone Group, Inc.
as a senior project manager from Arizona
State
University,
where he worked on an ASHRAE funded research on Hydronic Radiant
Cooling/Heating Systems while completing his masters’ degree in Energy
Performance and Climate-Responsive Architecture.
