STAFF PROFILE
Ramana Koti
Associate Manager
Ramana
Koti is an Associate Project Manager at the Heschong Mahone Group. His
primary responsibilities include simulation and analysis of energy and
daylighting performance in buildings. At HMG, his work informs research
and energy efficiency projects.
Mr. Koti is currently a member of the
teams managing the Daylight Metrics project and the Potential Office
Daylighting project, both funded under the PIER Lighting Program (LRP2).
The Daylight Metrics project is an extensive research effort to define a
new metric for daylighting in buildings and the Office Daylighting
project is an energy analysis and market research effort to determine
the potential savings from daylighting through windows in office
buildings.
Before joining HMG, Mr. Koti worked as a
building performance analyst with the Elements division of BNIM
Architects in Kansas City, Missouri for three years where he assisted
project teams with energy and daylighting design and analysis on diverse
building types. His responsibilities also included research,
facilitating knowledge sharing through organization of educational
lunches, climate analysis, solar studies, LEED™ documentation
coordination and auditing existing buildings.
Prior to that, Mr. Koti worked as a
Graduate Research Assistant at Arizona State University and helped the
Jeffrey Ross Cook Memorial Trust compile a publicly accessible digital
database of Late Prof. Jeffrey Cook’s slide collection pertaining to
indigenous, organic and passive solar architecture.
Before pursuing graduate studies in the
US, Mr. Koti practiced architecture for four years with reputable
architectural firms in Delhi, India such as Neeraj Manchanda Architects,
Ajoy Choudhury & Associates and ARCOP Associates.
His graduate thesis at Arizona State
University, now very familiar to the profession, developed a unique
methodology to predict annual whole building energy performance, annual
energy cost and lifecycle savings as a function of accurately modeled
daylighting illuminance. This involved combining the capabilities of the
simulation software DAYSIM and DOE-2.
Mr. Koti has so far published three
conference papers and one magazine article on energy and daylighting
related issues. Two of his team entries to the Sustainable Kansas City
competition in 2007 made it to the top 20 shortlist.
Mr. Koti has been a LEED™ accredited
professional since 2006. He is also a member of ASHRAE and the American
Solar Energy Society. Mr. Koti has an Master of Science degree majoring
in Energy Performance and Climate Responsive Architecture from Arizona
State University and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Andhra
University, Visakhapatnam, India.
