The HESCHONG MAHONE GROUP, INC. (HMG) provides
professional consulting services in the field of building energy
efficiency. We specialize in applying our knowledge of building design,
construction technology, program design and policy development to the
problem of making buildings more energy efficient. The firm offers
direct, personal service to its clients. Broad experience with both
utility and government clients allows HMG to provide customized, expert
consulting services tailored to the needs of the project, its budget and
schedule. HMG is a woman-owned small business.
The firm was founded by two architects, Lisa Heschong and
Douglas Mahone, in 1994, and has grown to its current strength of 40
professionals. As Principals, they continue to manage the growth of the
firm, and to provide oversight of its operations.
HMG is focused on five areas of market involvement, all related to
making buildings more energy efficient.
HMG’s staff and leadership are organized into these five market areas,
with a Group Manager responsible for each:
Program Design and Implementation –
Focused on energy efficiency programs,
typically run through utility program administrators. We have special
expertise in the multifamily buildings market, and have also run
programs in the single family and commercial existing buildings
markets. Julianne Summerford is the Group Manager.
Measurement
and Evaluation – Evaluating the effectiveness and savings of energy
efficiency programs, we have conducted process evaluations, impact
evaluations, market assessments and potential studies. We have also
coordinated portfolio level evaluations. Catherine Chappell is the Group
Manager.
Codes and
Standards – Involvement in all aspects of energy efficiency building
codes and appliance standards, from code development through enforcement
assessment, at both the state and national levels, including policy
development for savings evaluation. Catherine Chappell is the Group
Manager.
Building
Science Research – Conducting in-depth research in some of the most
significant areas of energy efficiency, including daylighting systems
and metrics, large-scale hot water systems, whole building energy
simulation, and zero net energy buildings Abhijeet Pande is the Group
Manager.
Emerging
Technology – Assessing promising new technologies for program
administrators and manufacturers, such as daylighting controls, window
films, absorption chillers, and lighting systems. Abhijeet Pande is the
Group Manager.
While these
market areas are focused on different clients and funding sources, they
all share the theme of improving the energy efficiency of buildings.
There are synergies between these areas of practice that mutually
reinforce their strengths and create additional opportunities for the
company.
