Owen Howlett - Senior Research Project Manager
Mr. Howlett is a
Senior Project Manager with the Heschong Mahone Group, Inc. He is a
technical specialist in the fields of daylighting, electric lighting,
lighting controls, and domestic hot water. Having worked in the
industrial, academic and consulting sectors, he has a range of
experience in influencing product markets and design practices through
research, code development, and design and specification guidance. He
has skills in mathematical modeling, statistical analysis and research
design.
Mr.
Howlett manages a variety of projects in research, codes and standards
development, and program evaluation. He has conducted research design
and data analysis for some of HMG’s major studies, including the Water
Heating Controls Performance Field Report, Central Hot Water
Distribution Systems in Multifamily Buildings, the Sidelighting
Photocontrols Field Study, and the Sign Luminance Field Study.
From 1999-2003 he was
on the editorial board of the International Journal of Lighting Research
and Technology, and he currently reviews papers for Leukos, the IESNA
peer-review journal. He is the author of several peer-reviewed papers.
He has taught lighting courses at universities in the US and UK, and has
taught the IESNA’s Lighting Education program in the Sacramento region.
Mr. Howlett holds an
M.Sc. in Light and Lighting from the Bartlett School, London, and an
M.A. in Engineering and Art History from the University of Cambridge.
