Energy Analyst / Project Manager

Job Description: HMG is seeking a mid-level energy analyst position to join our team of building science analysts. You will provide expertise to promote energy efficiency in buildings, manage consulting projects, carry out engineering evaluations of new energy efficiency technologies, and conduct energy and market studies for energy code measures. The position requires strong analytical skills, self-directed intellectual curiosity, and excellent communication skills.

Job Duties:

  1. Model and analyze energy efficiency technologies, design strategies, and controls, in the areas of lighting, daylighting, HVAC, and related end uses for commercial buildings.

  2. Evaluate and propose new energy code requirements and energy efficiency program measures, documenting modeling assumptions, energy savings, and other costs and benefits.

  3. Evaluate market potential and applications for new energy efficiency technologies, and coordinate input from various stakeholders.

  4. Collect and analyze monitored site data on performance of systems.

  5. Manage stakeholder input, and document code development process.

Candidates will work as part of a team working on emerging technologies and energy codes in California and elsewhere, and may be involved with additional program support, including market research and surveys, project tracking and reporting.

Qualifications:

  1. U.S. Citizenship (preferred) or green card.

  2. Minimum of a Masters degree in Engineering, Architectural Science, Physics, or other related technical field required.

  3. Detailed knowledge of lighting, daylighting, and/or thermal comfort standards for commercial buildings, and corresponding energy efficient equipment and design strategies.

  4. Training and experience in building energy simulation tools. Proficiency in Excel. Familiarity with database software applications a plus.

  5. Excellent writing and speaking skills. Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.

  6. Drivers license required; position may entail some travel, mostly within California.

Salary and Benefits: The position is a full time, permanent position, preferably at company headquarters in Fair Oaks, California, or possibly in Oakland, Ca. Starting salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience. A highly competitive benefits package is included, including 401(k). Energy Program Evaluator

Job Description: The Heschong Mahone Group Inc. (HMG) offers an entry- to mid-level career opportunity for an experienced evaluator. We provide measurement and evaluation services for energy efficiency programs across the United States. Our clients include utilities, state and federal agencies, and other energy efficiency organizations, and our evaluation practice is expanding. The position requires a working knowledge of evaluation practices, including sampling and survey methods, statistical analysis, gross and net impact analysis, process evaluation, and market analysis, as well as program and policy development.

Job Duties: 

  1. Participate on multiple teams to implement a variety of applied research projects.

  2. Participate in the development of research designs, data collection instruments and procedures.

  3. Conduct and oversee a variety of data collection tasks, including surveys, interviews, focus groups and document review.

  4. Plan, conduct and summarize quantitative and qualitative analyses, including database organization and management.

  5. Write reports that include statistical, narrative and graphic components as appropriate to the specific project.

  6. Engage in other project-related activities as needed.

  7. Interact regularly with staff and clients, traveling as needed.

  8. Participate in the strategic development of HMG ’s evaluation practice Manage project planning, budgeting, quality control, client relations and reporting.

  9. Develop internal procedures for program evaluations, data management, and statistical analyses.

  10. Prepare proposals, project teaming arrangements and budgets.

  11. Represent HMG at national conferences and evaluation forums.

  12. Assist in staff development through in-house training.

  13. Stay abreast of relevant professional standards, trends and issues.

Qualifications: The position, which is based in either Sacramento or Oakland, CA , is a full time, permanent position. Starting salary range is dependent on qualifications and experience. A highly competitive benefits package is included. Sacramento is well situated and affordable, compared to California’s other major metropolitan areas.
