Daylighting & Productivity Study
For the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, we
studied the correlation between daylight availability and human productivity.
The study was done in two parts. One part looked at elementary student test
scores in three school districts, and found that significant improvements in
test scores (20+%) was strongly correlated with daylight in classrooms. The
second part looked at retail sales in a chain of 100+ similar stores, and found
that retail sales were as much as 40% higher in stores with skylighting.
California
Lighting Technology Efficiency Report
For the California Energy Commission. Created a
statistically valid baseline of energy use and lighting characteristics for both
residential and commercial use, and modeled the energy impacts of alternative
policy options on statewide lighting energy use. Evaluated market barriers and
recommend the most effective policy approaches that the state could take to
improve lighting efficiency in the state. Study involved large scale data
analysis, creation of a computer model, market research on potential barriers to
implementation, leading public workshops, and final policy recommendations.
Productivity
Impact Study
For the Office of Federal Energy Management
Programs, contract via Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratories. Performed a
scoping study on the potential productivity impacts of efficient lighting on
federal office buildings nationwide. Evaluated data sources and estimated
impacts.
Residential
Appliance Saturation Survey
For Pacific Gas & Electric Co.’s 1995
Residential Appliance Saturation Survey, subcontractor to HBRS, advised on the
technical content of the survey instrument, with emphasis on ways to best
capture the technical efficiency characteristics of installed residential
energy-using equipment.
