Software Applications
SkyCalc
For Southern California Edison, developed skylighting design software in conjunction
with the development of the Skylighting Guidelines. The user-friendly Excel
application helps the user identify the optimum skylighting design for their building, and
compare the net energy cost savings using a variety of electric lighting control
strategies. The energy analysis is based on sensitivity studies performed using the
DOE2.1E building energy simulation program, using standard weather data for 16 California
climates. The SkyCalc spreadsheet reduces the calculation effort needed to optimize the
daylighting system for maximum energy cost savings, including both lighting and HVAC
effects.
Colorado Energy Guidelines Compliance
Forms
For the Colorado Office of Energy Conservation, developed both paper format and
electronic compliance forms for a modified version of ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1. The electronic
version includes equations, linked cells and on-screen pull-down lists that enable users
to easily fill out the forms by computer and print the completed documents on their own
computers
Audit Report Template
For Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), developed an Audit Report Template
software system designed to assist SMUDs energy auditors create consistent, high
quality audit reports for customers. The template provides a standardized Microsoft Word
report format with automatic links to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet
contains standard audit calculations, graphs and tables.
Ft Collins Compliance Forms
For The City of Fort Collins, CO, developed both paper format and electronic compliance
forms for a modified version of ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1. The electronic version includes
equations and on-screen pull-down lists that enable users to easily fill out the forms by
computer and print the completed documents on their own computers.
Washington State Compliance Forms
For the Utility Code Group and Building & Design 2000, designed and produced
compliance forms for the Washington State Nonresidential Energy Code (NREC). In the first
phase, paper forms were prepared. These were distributed for use in envelope, lighting,
motors and mechanical code compliance. In the second phase, the forms were converted into
electronic spreadsheet format and the calculations were automated, as above.
